Thanks, Sarah ~ I'm so glad you had the opportunity to hear and share this. I was a huge Becker fan, by the way!! I like Mr Weiner's observation about the struggle. Not feeling guilty about the time one's investing in one's dream without seeing 'tangible' results is a biggie.

What he said about not letting suits turn a doctor into a personal trainer is hilarious, because writers I know get ridiculous notes like that all the time.

I respect his tight control on his vision but it must be exhausting.

Thanks for the report, Sarah!

It was so refreshing! I've heard, "I hate writing but love having written" over and over, and while he did repeat that observation, he also articulated why it's so hard when you're starting out in ways I'd never heard before. It was awesome and reassuring on so many levels.

So interesting. I would have happily sat through another three hours.

He seems like he takes full responsibility for his choices too. It's not that he's not open to suggestion, but I think he at least wants to always see it his way first.

I can't imagine giving over control to others of your "baby" that you've created and cared for. I guess as long as you can accept if or when you shoot yourself in the foot by not taking someone else's advice or delegating some responsibilities, then go with your gut.

"But struggling is really about all the time you’re wasting and not hating yourself for what you haven’t done yet.” How anyone sticks with it through all the rejections is always amazing to me.

Sounded like an interesting guy. Thanks, Sarah! :-)

This a good piece. I think reading about a very successful guy giving it to you straight is exactly what all writers want and need to hear. I wish I had been there.

Good Work!
