(Unrelated, I keep trying to reply to your question regarding District 9 and it keeps not working. If you’re still interested here is the link to my review. Fair warning: I really didn’t like it so it’s quite a snotty review.:)
]]>I was very underwhelmed by the musicalization. This was supposed to be the “Young & hip” Oscars and when the only young is a 14 year-old nominee and an F-word in an acceptance speech is as hip as you get, you know you’ve got trouble.
Anyway, I wasn’t as surprised by Tom Hooper’s win (I know he was sort of a frontrunner since his DGA win), but I thought him winning was the only sort of “emotion” the night had. Anyway, David Fincher’s angry face said it all.
Thanks for this, PCN!
]]>Seriously, what you said. When Kirk Douglas at 94 and still exhibiting the affects of the stroke he suffered several years ago can outshine Franco and Hathaway, you know you’ve got a problem. I heard Franco and Hathaway rejected Ricky Gervais’s written lines. Bad move.
I loved The King’s Speech and was happy to see it walk away with the lion’s share of awards. I liked Social Network, but the movie doesn’t really say that much or come to any overwhelming conclusions about the phenomenon of FB in general, so it’s a good movie about an important event in history, but doesn’t really leave a mark in a greater social context. Which is pretty ironic, all things considered. Or not, all things considered — I have a love/hate relationship with FB myself.
The gowns…isn’t that what it’s really all about? Everyone very safe and proper, with the exception of Cate Blanchett who looked amazing, IMO. I guess there’ll be all sorts of post-Oscar commentary regarding that gown, but I liked it a lot. Even Nicole Kidman’s gown, which I did NOT like, wasn’t all that heinous. Heck, even Helena Bonham-Carter managed to combine her penchant for looking like Annie-off-the-pickle-boat (I have no idea what that means either, but my grandmother used to say it a lot — right up there with “something the cat dragged in”) with a safe and lady-like interpretation of something very costumey.
]]>And speaking of the direction, how about that shot of the two cameramen running by behind the presenter (I cant remember who it was) as she was talking. Urgh…so bad. I seriously cannot remember an Oscar telecast this lame since that old Rob Lowe/Snow White dance number one back in the day. I mean, David Letterman’s Uma/Oprah shtick was at least interesting to watch…last night’s show was boring as all hell…yawn…
Oh, and one more thing, you might wanna eat the Randy Newman chicken, but, the last thing I wanna think about while chewing the chicken off a bone is nasty old Randy Newman…yikes! Kenny Rogers was hard enough to eat. Stick to music, Randy! Ha ha!!
