Just saw the movie so it was a treat to read your coverage of the event featuring these brilliant actors. I liked so many things about this movie and found it deeply touching. I loved the great dignity, courage and spirit of the black women and hope when the Oscar nominations are announced we’ll be hearing the names Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer.

I got to watch the movie, I was so touch by it. I know all the adults did a great job but I was so moved by baby girl (little girl Leefolt)… who was she and how old is the child because she made the end a heart felt moment. we all left in tears

I read the book and could not put it down. Raised in the South in the 50’s and still living in the South this book is wonderful. I cannot wait until the movie comes out. I remember going to a friends house who happened to have a maid with a gray uniform and wondered just what she did. My mom did all those things!

I’m right there with you, Elyse; I own the book but haven’t read it yet. How incredible that Myrlie Evers-Williams was there! Sounds like a wonderful event on several levels.

I am horrified that you still haven’t read THE HELP, but you made up for it at least a bit by this heartwarming and thoughtful review of the movie! Now you MUST read the book so you can compare the two! I’m going to a preview next Tuesday and then we can discuss in greater detail.

I’m with you about Viola. Her reps should be deluged with job offers for her.

I definitely want to read the book. Maybe I’ll squeeze in chapters between the ones I have to read for review.
