I didn’t like DAEMON. I had a major problem with some plot point but can’t recall what it was since I read it years ago. But I agree with you that, sadly, bullying would find a way to exist even if classes become online experiences. Some people get bullied much later in life, but I get Mr. PCN’s point that it might make adolescence easier for some kids.
]]>If you both enjoyed this on a sci-fi/online basis, I’d recommend trying Daniel Suarez’s two books (in order) Daemon and Freedom. Both of you left a lot of food for thought in this look at the book. Interesting premise about online education solving the bullying problem by Mr. PCN. That would be great, and I’d be for it. I don’t think it’s that simple, though. Paraphrasing Dr. Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park, “I’m simply saying that [bullying], uh… finds a way“. I wish it didn’t, though.
Thanks very much.
]]>I have to finish books I start, but I can tell it will be a bit before I pick up Read Player One again. I just had a really difficult time getting into it, though I was loving the 80s references. I’ll give it another chance.
And then, this weekend, I went to a good friend’s art show, and he had totally left a secret message in his installation. I instantly thought of this book!
