Thu, 18 Aug 2011 19:27:58 +0000https://popculturenerd.com/?p=15404#comment-60243My 12 year old self found a dog-eared copy of M.A.S.H. by Richard Hooker, while I was serving detention in a dusty back room of my school. It was the first free book I ever found. To be honest, my hormones were probably drawn to the cover. (if you remember the legs and peace sign cover, quite racy for me back then) I’m glad I read it. I took it to college with me and it was on my shelf for a while, then someone “found it” and I never saw it again.

I would make a terrible salesperson of anything. But I didn’t even think twice about approaching this woman because I was giving her something and who doesn’t like free books? OK, maybe the people who liked that dumb Facebook page I don’t even want to name, but I figured most would accept a free, brand new, hardcover book.

For the record, I would certainly have thought you were selling Amway or trying to get me to become a Scientologist. A book? Really? No way! Needless to say, she was probably very relieved. 🙂
