Being familiar with the history covered during the reign of the director for FBI, and the man at the center, I found it fascinating (the device of moving between events spread years/decades apart didn’t distract me). Part of the interest I had was with the man many believe responsible for a number of ruined lives (certainly Melvin Purvis, some of which was covered in Michael Mann’s ‘Public Enemies’ film) in the name of country and safety. It was different from previous Eastwood films, but my son enjoyed it (and increased his curiosity on the subject). The performances, especially Dicaprio and Hammer, were as I expected. Eastwood has now a reputation for being an actor’s director, and it continues here as these two will likely get Oscar nods for this. Anyway, just my experience with the film. Thanks, Elyse.

I really wanted to like the AVIATOR and AMELIA movies, but, although beautifully shot, they just didn’t deliver the goods on the big screen. Trouble is, if Hollywood threw a bit of fiction into these stories, historians would undoubtedly cry foul.
