I think the art of this movie is impressive, so as an artist, you can probably appreciate and get even more out of it than a layman like me.

Sat, 17 Dec 2011 00:37:26 +0000https://popculturenerd.com/?p=16620#comment-92648I think I’ll go along more to see the craftsmanship of the motion capture ~ it fascinates me! But I’m glad to hear the creepy expressions aren’t there. I hadn’t seen The Polar Express but caught a glimpse when flicking channels the other night and it unnerved me! I always enjoy yours and Eric’s joint reviews/animated discussions ~ thanks again.

I haven’t read the books, but I’ve known they were pretty popular. I will still see this but am glad to know what to expect. And duh? Daniel Craig? Didn’t we have a convo about your message: Picky Girl, go see this. Even if it’s just his voice. 😉

Thu, 15 Dec 2011 22:31:24 +0000https://popculturenerd.com/?p=16620#comment-92249I saw that in theaters, too—kids yelling out “Tintin!” Regardless of my feelings for the movie, it makes me happy that Tintin’s finally getting some name recognition in America. As of a couple weeks ago when I mentioned this movie to people, they were still asking, “Are you talking about the dog Rin Tin Tin?”

This is a different medium so I didn’t expect to feel the same way about the movie as I do about the books, so I can’t say I’m disappointed exactly. It’s not a bad movie, just not…amazing.

Thu, 15 Dec 2011 20:53:05 +0000https://popculturenerd.com/?p=16620#comment-92234While in the lobby of a theater waiting for my movie to begin, I noticed parents exiting a screening the Muppets. Every kid that came out of the movie theater oooh-ed and awww-ed over a huge display of The Adventures of Tintin. It was really surprising because the display was one of those teasers just showing the characters, but not saying what the movie was called. The kids certainly knew. Since I knew the Tintin books, I figured the kids were familiar with them as well so I asked a couple of parents about their children’s reaction. They claimed the kids were only aware of the ads for movie, not the books. Some marketing campaign. One of my nephews may drag me to it, but I think I won’t be checking it out on my own.
