I rarely pay attention to blurbs, but I must add that my favorite read of 2012 — Wiley Cash’s A LAND MORE KIND THAN HOME — was one that I picked up solely on the strength of the blurb by Clyde Edgerton, whose work I enjoy immensely. Sometimes, even the most glowing blurb is true and not just radioactive.

But as for me, I don’t pay one lick of attention to blurbs with the exception of two authors. Even people I know and adore I’ve disguarded as biased because I know they are blurbing either a.) a friend or b.) another author from their publisher. Which of course isn’t to say a book is bad, it’s just that I can’t use the blurb as a measurement. If they can’t sell me with the synopsis…I move on to the next option….

However, I will say, “playing with chickens” sounds more like one of Dante’s levels of hell to me… 😉
