I pictured a small single bed room with old unfinished hardwood floors, one dusty lace curtained window, an opened suitcase with clothes spilling out, small bedside wooden table with a doily under the lamp, an “Uncle Ben” alarm clock, and you are dark haired in your early twenties. Life’s responsibilities from an early age has squelched any opportunities for you to figure out how to afford violin or cello lessons. The older you grow, passion spurned by regret brings about a lucky surprise event which enables you to pursue your dream.

For four years I lived in the apartment, so when it was time to clean every nook and cranny before I moved again, I found dry dog food pellets stacked fairly neatly under dusty old shoes and a moth eaten blanket. I was on my hands and knees squeezing close to the floor of my bedroom closet so as not to unhook heavy winter coats and have them falling on top of me. First nostalgia hit me, since my Westie had recently passed away, and I thought, “Why did Hopscotch dig in the bedroom closet and hide his food?” Then I had a deju-vous of one sleepy hot summer afternoon resting on the couch, when a grey streak flashed across the floor along the wall in the living room. Another flash of grey again back towards the bedroom. I figured it must have been a mouse hiding his stash. Kind of strange, tho, since Westie’s are mousers…..except when they’re asleep up on top of the couch with their owner!!

After we moved into our house we found stickers on the back of our bedroom door. There were Mr. Yuck, Joe Montana, North Stars and other stickers.
