Lil Rounds and Anoop are gone. I’d predicted Lil and Matt and I still think that’s how it should’ve gone. When Anoop did his encore of Donna Summer’s “Dim All the Lights,” he sounded even better than last night, looser and more in control at the same time. The judges wasted their save last week on Matt. It should’ve been spent on Anoop this week.
Highlights included appearances by disco stars Freda Payne, Thelma Houston and KC with skanky dancers instead of his Sunshine Band. It was all a little rough to watch. And I’m saying this as someone who really likes disco music and once paid to see KC live.
KC and the divas could’ve benefited from Paula’s choreography skills, which she unleashed on the contestants for the first time, making them look semi-coordinated and hip in their group number instead of awkward and flat-footed. Some took to the dance steps better than others but overall, Paula taught those kids well and reminded us how she first came to fame.
What’d you think of the group number? Did you agree with tonight’s castoffs?

April 22, 2009 at 11:44 pmI predicted that Lil, Matt, and Anoop would be the bottom three. Even Matt was safe this week I have a feeling that he will probably be the one to go next week. But what about Allison? I’m in love with her voice. She sounds so unique and super powerful and the way she arranges songs is brilliant. It’s hard to believe she’s still a teenager and with that much talent. She was born to be a star. So I clenched my teeth when I heard that Matt was safe and Allison was the bottom three. She’s too good to leave the show this early! I don’t care what a crazy outfit she’s wearing or how messy her hair is, I want her to stay in this competition till the end.
I agree with your “It was all a little rough to watch” comment. And about the youngers’ group number, it was fun to watch but I cannot stand it when they lip synch. So I muted my TV and just watched it. Then it wasn’t so bad at all.
I cannot wait for next Tuesday.

April 23, 2009 at 8:21 amI know. We couldn’t even watch until the end of the show, so didn’t know Anoop was gone until now. KC and group – such low energy there- made me feel older than dirt. Paula’s choreography, I felt, was the highlight of the night.
Mercy.

April 23, 2009 at 9:24 amI didn’t think it would be Anoop either. But, to be honest, it might have just been too little too late. I mean, it sounds like most of us like him, but Anoop, as with Lil Rounds, never performed as strongly as we wanted them to.

April 23, 2009 at 9:44 amI can’t hate on Matt, but I do agree that the judges wasted their save on him. I think it will come down to Allison, Kris and Adam. Then, at the last minute, Allison will get a MAJOR MAKEOVER and look stunning and that will be the game changer.

April 23, 2009 at 11:06 amI think the group performance was OK, and I think Paula did a good job.
The medley from KC and the others was terrible and it seemed as if they rose from their graves and tried to fit in today’s clothes. Atrocious. Terrible.
Archie was OK… just OK. His vocals were so so but his stage presence has clearly improved.
About the eliminations I think it’s clear that Lil had no chance of moving forward, performance-wise. And though I didn’t believe in the save for Matt (I do think they should only use it for real shock-eliminations, like Michael Johns or J.Hud… ), I believe Anoop had very little to offer in any forthcoming rounds. I mean, he clearly has great vocals and has proven himself as a balladier, but his uptempo came crashing down hard. Matt, on the other hand, is a little more complete and he plays the piano crazy! I think he has little chance (as of now) to get a better spot than number 5.
I think next week could be a shocker though. I mean, Matt should be a little less desperate and if he comes out with a good performance, he might keep himself for another round. Allison has to do another “Papa was a Rolling Stone” or she’ll get harsh or ambiguous critiques from the judges which could hurt her, despite the great performances she’s been giving.

April 23, 2009 at 11:27 amMy personal feelings are that the results shows have sucked. Forget how bad Freda and KC were, Archie, what happened to you? David A. was terrible. What has the AI machine done to him? He has no future, not that I ever thought he did, just like Anoop he can only sing ballads unless he taps into the Barry Manilow fan base.
Thank God the save rule didn’t backfire with Alison being in the bottom 3 this week.
How do they get rid of Matt who has been saved twice? He doesn’t really have a serious future either at least Simon and I don’t think so. He never be Chris Martin of Coldplay, what he wants his musical career to be. Is there room for another JT, sorry Matt.
Hopefully that will leave the deserving 4 in two weeks, Alison, Danny, Adam, Kris and we’ll have a good contest.
With that said, I’ll say it now, I think Kris has the brightest future. He could be the next Rob Thomas. Adam is my favorite on the show but the pre-fab AI talent-ruining song writers and the emo band they will create for him will not put him where he belongs, on Broadway. Danny is a Christian rocker with a limited audience and CD sales. Alison is too old for her age. Maybe they can find a character to mold her into on the Disney network otherwise we might forget about her by the time she turns 19.
Sorry Matt I hope you go next week or I’ll be going off again. I hope Adam rocks it out again.
Peace Out Dogg

April 23, 2009 at 4:01 pmI feel your pain, Foxtail! I think Allison has an amazing voice and don’t know why she keeps ending up in the bottom 3. We need to vote for her more. (You all ARE voting, right?)
EireGo, you’re right about Anoop. He never quite lived up to how cool he was during Hollywood week singing “My Prerogative.”
BizMan5, you really think a makeover would get more people to vote for Allison? I’m not sure there’s anything wrong with the way she looks now. It’s an eccentric look but she’s a rocker and wouldn’t look right in cutesy dresses.
Lizabeth Ann, why should you feel old? Those artists should stop dancing as if they’re still in their 20s. I still like the songs—I have KC’s greatest hits on CD—but he’s got to retire that cheesy choreography.
Poncho, I was also underwhelmed by Archie. His voice sounded weak, like he was gasping for air throughout most of the song. And I wish the save was available for Michael Johns and J. Hud, too. It pissed me off when they were eliminated.
Alice Emily, welcome! No love for Danny, huh?
Steve, I agree with you about Kris. Earlier this season, I didn’t get all the fuss about him, little girls screaming and such. But he has really surprised me in recent weeks. He makes bold song choices, he’s versatile, his vocals have gotten richer and he can play multiple instruments. I’m rooting for him now.
As for Adam, he’s a very good singer but I can’t imagine listening to a whole album of him shrieking. I’d go insane.

April 24, 2009 at 10:28 amI think Steve has some Allison Dubois (“Medium”) in him. As I see it now, I’d buy Kris’s CD, I’d contemplate on purchasing Allison’s; I’d download a few tracks by Adam and/or Danny, and forget all about Matt.
