I really enjoyed Liane Moriarty’s What Alice Forgot two years ago, so when Lydia at Putnam Books offered me the chance to host this giveaway of the author’s new novel, The Husband’s Secret (July 30), I thought it’d be a good way to introduce you to Liane’s work.
Here’s the description from her website:
At the heart of The Husband’s Secret is a letter that’s not meant to be read…
My Darling Cecilia, if you’re reading this, then I’ve died…
Imagine your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret—something with the potential to destroy not just the life you built together, but the lives of others, too. Imagine, then, that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive . . .
Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all—she’s an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, and a devoted wife and mother. Her life is as orderly and spotless as her home. But that letter is about to change everything, and not just for her. Rachel and Tess barely know Cecilia—or each other—but they too are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband’s secret.
To enter, leave a comment telling me what would be earth shattering for you to discover about someone you know. You can make it up; this is just for fun and to make the entries interesting.
Giveaway ends next Tuesday, July 30, 9 p.m. PST. One winner will be randomly selected and have 48 hours after notification to claim the prize, which will come in a Tupperware container (it’s related to Cecilia’s job; wish I could show you the picture of the packaging but for some reason it won’t upload). US/Canada addresses only.

July 23, 2013 at 7:47 amWe live during a time when having somene come out of the closet is no big deal, so that’s too obvious and the longer they wait to tell is just sad, not earth shattering. Finding that the person you’ve known alll your life as a man is actually a woman is to Madame Butterfly.
So, I’m going with the person has a tail!

July 23, 2013 at 10:03 amPreacher pounded the pulpit spitting his vitriolic spew. The words about judgment and God a jumble that made no sense to me. I really dreaded my counseling appointment after services.
When I walked into his austere office, Preacher still seemed keyed up from earlier. He welcomed me and asked me to close the door which I did reluctantly.
As I turned away from the door Preacher had morphed into something unrecognizable. He looked like a Halloween devil on steroids. I stumbled out of his office and ran as fast as I could to mama’s old car.
The person I’d been led to believe was a man of God was a physical manifestation of Satan himself.

July 23, 2013 at 2:44 pmThat the planes my father piloted were actually paper ones flown in a basement office. And when he talked about flying the “Big Birds”, he meant he used legal-sized paper. Or he was flipping off his boss.

July 23, 2013 at 3:11 pmFinding out that my old beau (and hubby’s old roommate) is a staunch gun-toting wing-nut conservative. Didn’t see that coming.

July 27, 2013 at 2:18 pmSince I’m watching Falling Skies this weekend from Netflix I think if I found an alien space ship in my back yard that might be earth shattering to ME. 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway of The Husband’s Secret. I read a review of it yesterday in Entertainment Weekly which made me want to read it. 🙂 Hope you are having a fun summer with lots of reading.

July 27, 2013 at 8:36 pmDiscovered that a former student had become a porn star! She had been in my class the one and only year that I taught drama. She was quite talented.
