Since many of us here are readers and have book lovers in our lives, we’re probably all scrambling for unique bookish gift ideas. This is why I’m excited to host this giveaway from Postertext. According to its website, the company consists of “avid readers and passionate artists who all work together intimately to create the perfect intersection between art and literature.”
The results? Posters made entirely of text from classic novels. (Contemporary ones are coming soon). Here’s a sample:

Cool, right? If you’d like to win a poster of your choice (click here to see all available titles and their dimensions), leave a comment about one of your favorite books of all time—classic or contemporary—and what the center image would be if it were made into a poster. For example, one of my favorite books is Carlos Ruiz Zafón’s The Shadow of the Wind and I’d want the poster to depict the Cemetery of Forgotten Books.
Giveaway ends Dec. 24, 9 p.m. PST. For US residents only. The poster won’t come before Christmas but it’d still be a great gift for any occasion.

December 18, 2014 at 11:17 amThese are really nifty. Remind me (not in finished product, but idea) about these prints I just discovered from a place called The Color of Motion. They take frames from your favorite movie and make them into a color print. Hard to describe, but they’re really neato. Nice to see people making interesting and artistic things from other media.

December 19, 2014 at 1:14 pmHa! Not creepy, I know where you’re coming from and you win. I can never pick a favorite book, but I’ll go with The Power Of the Dog and imagine the poster with an image of a fierce canine guarding a stash of drugs and guns, with a DEA badge thrown in there somewhere.

December 18, 2014 at 11:22 amMy favorite book is “A Prayer for Owen Meany” by John Irving. The original hardback cover has an image of an armadillo with a granite background. The first paperback was a headstone. The more recent cover has a dress-maker’s dummy. All echo central points of the book. All of these images came to mind while pondering this, but I didn’t want to just duplicate the cover art.
For the Postertext, I would like to see the two main characters, John and Owen, in silhouette. In the foreground at age 11 and larger silhouettes of the same characters in the background in their early 20s.
Owen’s image would be much shorter than John’s. Even in the adult silhouettes, Owen’s height would not have increased as much as John’s.
(On the Postertext site, I have my eye on “The Three Musketeers”, another favorite book of mine.)

December 19, 2014 at 1:09 pmOops, didn’t follow instructions… What I like form the selections: it’s a toss up for The Odyssey, Hamlet or Ender’s Game (in that order). What I’d like: The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry is what I would want and the image would be of the bookstore interior with the little girl reading in one of the aisles. Or, better yet, the exterior of the bookstore and a baby bundle sitting on the stoop.

December 19, 2014 at 8:08 pmMy first choice would have been Zafón’s The Shadow of the Wind, but since you mentioned it I will choose another. One of my favorite books of all time is Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry. I would want an image of a cowboy on a horse and the Hat Creek Cattle Company sign.
