First Look at the New Wonder Woman

Entertainment Weekly ran this picture today of Adrianne Palicki in costume for the Wonder Woman pilot written by David E. Kelley. Having read this Daily Beast article by someone who’d seen the script, the photo makes me even less hopeful about the show being something I’d like to watch despite my being a gigantic fan of the Amazonian princess. The costume and her garish makeup make her look cheap, like someone working Hollywood Boulevard and I don’t mean as a character for tourists to take photos with. I do like those bracelets, though.

What do you think? (UPDATE: Click here to read Lynda Carter’s comments on Palicki playing WW.)

My momma always told me if I didn’t have anything nice to say, I shouldn’t say anything at all…

I’ll say it. She look like a ho.

HAhaha! Naomi! Too funny. I have to say, though, the original was pretty darn revealing as well. Guess it’s too much to ask for a powerful female superhero not to show nip.

    Ooooh…so shiny!

Ya, I totally agree — she looks like a cheap ho, and I hate that implant-y thing going on up top. Lynda Carter’s outfit was probably more revealing but it worked. This, not so much.

When I saw that material, my first thought was, “That’s going to create rashes.” Or maybe that’s just me and my sensitive skin.

Lynda Carter is only going to look better and better after this series is cancelled.

Lynda Carter seems very charitable about this new version. See her comments here.

    You all said it.

jenn, even though Lynda Carter’s outfit was skimpier, she somehow managed to look strong instead of cheap in it. And she didn’t even have pants on!

le0pard13, would it better if she looked like a classy ‘ho?

No. But as Nora said, perhaps she’d have been less shiny ;-).

    Ummm… 0_o

I think it’s the shiny lipstick, how-the-hell-can-skin-breathe-in-that outfit. Superhero Halloween costume for party at the Playboy mansion?

Lynda Carter’s comments are very supportive and constructive.

In that getup, I think she’d fit in quite well at the Playboy mansion.

I agree with you, it looks too cheaply made and well, just too dang shiny to be taken seriously, but keep in mind these are early shots of her. They might tone it down and make it more believable. Physically, she just doesn’t look all that powerful. Though not a big fan of the show Lynda Carter was a part of way back when, I always admired Carter for being able to express with her eyes alone how powerful she was on the inside and her amusement at how the bad guys were underestimating her. Not a hater of Palicki. I don’t even know her work that well, but my first thought was she needs to get a personal trainer to define those arms a bit. It might make me take the costume and her stance more seriously. ‘Cause the eyes and the way she is setting her jaw just ain’t cutting it.

Very insightful comments, EIREGO. I have all the DVDs from the original show and re-watched them last year so I know the look you’re talking about—as if she’s thinking, “I’m going to enjoy kicking your ass.”

That costume looks like something you could have bought in the Halloween aisle at K-Mart circa 1982. Just awful.

Haha! I like how specific you are about when and where this costume could’ve been purchased. Speaking from, ahem, personal experience?

Absolutely, though not WW. I was a tomboy. My K-Mart costumes included Superman (my older sister was WW), Batman, and Darth Vader. 🙂

She looks like a weaponized version of Lynda Carter…I loved your Wonder Woman jammies that Sally wore on stage last night!

You noticed my WW jammies! They’re mine and of course I had to wear them on stage. I also have a WW tee but thought that might be overkill.

Personally, I don’t find this any less distasteful than any other female superhero costume. The old Wonder Woman costume was cheesy and slutty too. Batwoman was shiny and skin tight as well.

Since they gave her pants, it would have been nice to give her a whole top.

Well, she was terrific in Friday Night Lights. I only hope that she has the possibility of letting her talent shine through again. The suit definitely needs to be toned down. She is beautiful and talented so we can only hope that this is a good project.
